WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08) released the following statement Monday in recognition of Memorial Day 2017:

“In his timeless and compassionate letter to a mother who lost five sons during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln noted: ‘the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice on the altar of freedom.’ Each American we recognize this today paid the price of liberty, freedom and the American way through the giving their life in the service of others. This is the sacrifice we recognize on Memorial Day. And it is through recognition of that total devotion we recommit ourselves to carrying their memory and advancing a nation that holds true to the values they gave so much to protect.”

Fitzpatrick participated in a number of Memorial Day weekend events, including delivering remarks at the Friends of Washington Crossing Historic Park Memorial Day Commemoration (Sunday) and the Memorial Day Service at Washington Crossing National Cemetery (Monday).
