Fitzpatrick: Benghazi Select Committee Needed

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) released the following statement regarding the House passage of H.R. 567 which establishes a select committee to investigate the events surrounding the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya that left four Americans dead:

It is disappointing that nearly two years after the deadly terrorist attack in Benghazi that the American people - and the families of the four Americans killed - would still have so many questions left unanswered about the circumstances surrounding the attack and the administration’s response.

That’s why the House today – with the establishment of a bipartisan select committee - took decisive action to once-and-for-all get to the bottom of this tragedy. I believe committee chair Mr. Gowdy will serve as a fair and tenacious fact-finder to thoroughly investigate all the information regarding the attack.

Last week, Fitzpatrick praised the move by Speaker Boehner to form the select committee. Prior to that announcement, Fitzpatrick he had written to House leadership urging for consideration of a select committee as well as sponsoring legislation to establish one.

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick is serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He represents Pennsylvania’s 8th district which includes all of Bucks County as well as a portion of Montgomery County. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
