Fitzpatrick Focused on Veterans Services
BENSALEM, PA – Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) held a veteran’s community workshop and town hall Wednesday in Bensalem to talk about the issues facing veterans across the district.
The event, held on the Parx Casino campus, served as a one-stop-shop for veterans’ issues and information. Fitzpatrick coordinated with representatives from state and county offices to answer questions about legislation that affects veterans.
“One of the best ways we can honor our veterans is by helping them gain access to the opportunities they earned,” said Fitzpatrick. “My office will be a tireless advocate for veterans and their families who struggle with the VA. Furthermore, we strive to educate veterans the resources available to them to help build a career.”
Fitzpatrick, a member of the Congressional Veteran’s Jobs Caucus, focused much of the discussion on the importance of tackling the high rate of unemployment of veterans, and stressing the continued need to support veterans as the transition into the job market.
“Our veterans are the most highly skilled workforce in world history,” said Fitzpatrick. “We need to full utilize our veterans to put our economy back on the right track. Legislation like my Fairness to Veterans Act, which mandates that veterans should get the same federal contracting preferences as every other group, can make that goal a reality.”
Fitzpatrick has worked with local trade and technical schools, including Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, to open up more career training options to veterans by allowing them to use their GI Bill benefits outside of a traditional university setting and training them for highly sought after manufacturing and trades skill positions.
“Any veterans, old or young, are encouraged to contact my office and our Veterans Affairs department for information on anything from education to their VA benefits,” added Fitzpatrick.
Military and Veteran’s Affairs caseworks are available at Fitzpatrick’s Langhorne District office at 1717 Langhorne-Newtown Rd., Suite 400, Langhorne or by phone at 215-579-8102.
Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick is serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He represents Pennsylvania’s 8th district which includes all of Bucks County as well as a portion of Montgomery County. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
