Fitzpatrick Issues Statement on Fallen Firefighter
LANGHORNE, PA - Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) issued the following statement regarding a Philadelphia firefighter lost in the line of duty last night, Fire Captain Michael Goodwin:
"Together we mourn the loss of Philadelphia Fire Captain Michael Goodwin who was killed in the line of duty last night.
Goodwin, 53, a 29-year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Dept., was responding to a fire at a fabric shop in the city's 'Fabric Row' section Saturday night when a floor collapsed beneath him. Another firefighter, 28-year old Andrew Godlinski, was injured trying to rescue Capt. Goodwin but, thankfully, Godlinski is expected to survive.
My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the family of Capt. Goodwin as well as members of the Philadelphia Fire Dept. in this time of great sadness.
We must recognize the service of first responders- like Capt. Goodwin- in both times of triumph and tragedy. Our emergency responders put their own lives at risk to help the public on a daily basis. That is why I've championed for extra support for our emergency personnel as well as expanded support for families of first responders lost in the line of duty."
