Fitzpatrick Streamlines Energy Regulations to Spur Job Creation

Jun 21, 2012 Issues: Economy and Jobs, Energy

WASHINGTON, DC –  Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-08) issued the following statement this afternoon on the passage of H.R. 4480 -  “The Domestic Energy and Jobs Act” in the House of Representatives:

"Today, I was proud to support legislation which  unburdens American energy producers from misguided overregulation and fosters a long-term plan for energy independence."

"The Domestic Energy & Jobs Act streamlines bureaucratic permit processes, cuts red tape, and opens new federal land to safe and environmentally sound energy exploration.  This legislation provides America's energy producers with the tools and flexibility they need to create good, family-sustaining jobs, and promote American energy independence."

H.R. 4480 includes a range of policies which streamline the federal approval process for energy production and promote American energy independence.  The Domestic Energy & Jobs Act:

  • Requires the Administration to develop a plan to lease more federal lands for energy exploration and production if the president releases oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve
  • Requires the president to establish an interagency committee to conduct a complete analysis on EPA rules and actions that impact domestic energy price
  • Requires the Secretary of the Interior to establish an all-of-the-above energy strategy program for federal lands and establishing production goals from oil, natural gas, coal, and renewable sources of energy
  • Streamlines and reforms the process for energy permitting to encourage timely development of our federal oil, natural gas and renewable resources
