Fitzpatrick: Student Loan Agreement is the Right Call for Students
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Fitzpatrick (PA-8) released the following statement Wednesday concerning the adoption of a bipartisan Senate plan to tie student loan rates to the market:
“I’m glad to hear that the Senate is finally taking steps to support a common sense, bipartisan student loan fix that mirrors the version I supported in May.
After nearly a month of partisan bickering within the Senate, there finally appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel for American college students. By moving toward a bipartisan solution which takes interest rates out of the political process– similar to plans supported by myself, the House, and President Obama – lawmakers are taking steps to remove politics from student loans.
I applaud the Senate for finally passing a bill so families and lenders can know that student loan rates are out of the hands of Washington politicians. The sooner we fix this, the sooner we can begin addressing the issue of skyrocketing education costs across the country- something I look forward to working on with members of both parties.”
Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick is serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He represents Pennsylvania’s 8th district which includes all of Bucks County as well as a portion of Montgomery County. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
