Congressman Anthony Brindisi secured the endorsement of the Problem Solvers Caucus for his Made in America Emergency Preparedness Act. The Problem Solvers Caucus is a bipartisan group in Congress comprised of 50 members – equally divided between Democrats and Republicans – who are committed to forging bipartisan cooperation on key issues.

Brindisi’s bill, lead with Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), aims to strengthen the manufacturing industry and bolster the supply chain of emergency resources for future crises. Additionally, the bill aims to make sure America is better prepared for national emergencies like a global pandemic moving forward.

“Our legislation will save lives, keep Americans safe, strengthen our manufacturing sector, and create good-paying jobs,” said Brindisi. “COVID-19 exposed glaring holes in our supply chain and I am honored that the Problem Solvers Caucus is endorsing our plan to fix them. We must learn from this crisis and in the future, we need to strengthen our supply chain and not be over-reliant on adversaries like China to help us in our time of need. The Made in America Emergency Preparedness Act will make our country better prepared for national emergencies and in times of war. While we respond to this pandemic, we need to also be working together, in a bipartisan way, to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

The legislation drew support from fellow New York representative, and Problem Solvers Caucus co-chair, Tom Reed (NY-23).

“It is only fair that we carefully review this current situation and take steps to fully understand how we can work better going forward,” said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Reed. “This legislation can help ensure our nation is stronger and more prepared for the next emergency.”

Brindisi, a staunch ally of the American manufacturing sector, passed the SPOONSS Act into law earlier this year. Brindisi’s SPOONSS Act was a boon for Upstate New York’s Sherrill Manufacturing and required the Department of Defense to purchase their flatware from American manufacturers.

Brindisi vowed to work with Democrats, Republicans, and the Administration to get this bill signed into law.

“As Washington looks to additional coronavirus relief legislation, it is time for people to start working together to make sure this never happens again,” Brindisi added. “Including my Made in America Emergency Preparedness Act in any future relief package would go a long way to protecting us for the future.”
