Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick promotes Bucks County drug takeback program
Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick on Thursday issued a statement urging residents to turn in unused or expired medications through Bucks County's drug takeback program.
"Nearly 70 percent of people who abuse prescription pain relievers get them from their friends and family," Fitzpatrick said. "As our community continues to grapple with the devastating effects of the opioid epidemic, it is crucial we take every step possible to stop prescription medication from falling into the wrong hands."
Since the program's inception, Bucks County has collected about 40 tons of medications, which leads the state.
Drugs can be dropped off at secured take-back boxes at about 50 locations throughout the county, including police stations. A countywide drug take back event is set for Oct. 28. About 4,000 pounds of medication were collected at the previous event in April.
