Fitzpatrick Presents Workforce Grant to Bucks County

$1.7 Million in funds to assist dislocated workers

Bristol, PA—Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08) today presented the Bucks County Workforce Development Board (BCWDB) with a $1.7 million U.S. Department of Labor grant at the PA CareerLink of Bucks County.

Congressman Fitzpatrick presented the grant alongside Bucks County Commissioner Rob Loughery, BCWDB Executive Director John Flanagan, and President of the Bucks County Community College Dr. Stephanie Shanblatt.

“Here in Bucks and Montgomery County, as is the case around the nation, substantive training and apprenticeship programs are integral to good paying jobs. This is especially important as we witness many traditionally retail job opportunities disappear,” said Rep. Fitzpatrick.  “This grant will lead to positive, transformative changes in the lives of countless residents. We must ensure that our workforce has the necessary skills to compete in 21st century economy.”

This award allocates $1.7 million to provide education and work-based learning opportunities to dislocated workers in Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. The Bucks County Workforce Development Board is only one of two workforce development boards in PA that received this grant.

This grant will assist in implementing innovative skills instruction and career services for Americans who are seeking reemployment as a result of changes in workforce needs or from economic changes across multiple sectors.

The $1.7 million award will enable the Bucks County Workforce Development Board to promote on-the-job-training, customized training programs, and industry certifications. The funds will assist dislocated workers in Bucks County, Montgomery County, and Philadelphia find careers in the Bio-Tech/Healthcare fields, Business and IT fields, and advanced manufacturing.
