Fitzpatrick Urges Local Fire Departments to Apply for Grant

SAFER Grant allocates funds to increase number of “front line” firefighters in local communities

March 28, 2018

LANGHORNE, PA – Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08) announced information this week regarding federal emergency safety grants aimed at assisting local fire departments with staffing and providing around the clock emergency services to their communities. The grant application period has opened for grants under the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program. The application period runs until Friday, April 27, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.

“Our first responders are always there for us, willing to risk their lives to keep others safe,” said Fitzpatrick. “This grant is an opportunity to bring valuable federal support into our communities, and to ensure our local fire departments have the staffing and resources to protect the lives and property in our communities.”

The SAFER Grant Program distributes funds to assist fire departments and volunteer interest organizations with increasing or maintaining the number of trained front line firefighters and emergency services personnel available in their communities.  The program seeks to assist local fire departments with deployment capabilities in order to respond to emergencies, ensuring communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards.  The grants are available to volunteer, professional, or combination fire departments.
