WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Congressional Ukraine Caucus Co-Chairs Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Mike Quigley (D-IL), and Andy Harris (R-MD) released the following statement regarding reports that Russia is preparing a false flag operation to justify invading Ukraine.

“The Congressional Ukraine Caucus stands with Ukraine against Russia’s brutal aggression and destabilization of the region, and condemns any attempt by Russia to fabricate a pretext to justify the invasion of Ukraine.

“The reported threat of a false flag operation in Ukraine by Russian operatives – coupled with cyberattacks on Ukrainian government websites and movements of Russian troops – raises grave concerns about the Kremlin’s interest in escalating tensions rather than engaging in good faith diplomacy.

“Our commitment to protecting Ukraine is as strong as ever. If these reports are true, the world must recognize these latest actions for what they are: A page from the Kremlin’s well-known playbook to force Ukraine into submission.

“In keeping with our commitments, the United States and our allies must act now to deliver Ukraine the security assistance and defensive military aid it needs. The future of Ukraine’s sovereignty depends on its ability to defend itself from tyranny.”
