WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) and Norma J. Torres (CA-35) introduced a bipartisan resolution to recognize August 3, 2021 as National Night Out. Every year on the first Tuesday of August, communities across the country and their local law enforcement agencies come together to promote public safety and build community-police partnerships in the community.

“Strong community-police partnerships can unite us all and help our communities thrive by promoting public safety awareness,” Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick said. “Throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties, I am proud of the many police departments that bring our neighborhoods together and foster a sense of community by organizing activities and participating in National Night Out.  The introduction of this bipartisan resolution, which recognizes Tuesday, August 3, 2021 as National Night Out, supports these efforts and recognizes the officers and community members that make Pennsylvania’s 1st District a great place to live.”

“As a mother of a police officer and a former 9-1-1 dispatcher, I know the importance of creating a sense of community with our local law enforcement,” Rep. Norma J. Torres said. “I am proud to co-lead a resolution with Rep. Fitzpatrick to commemorate National Night Out this year, and to encourage community engagement and public partnerships for safer communities. After a year of virtual meetings and events to keep our communities safe from the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m happy that National Night Out will be held in-person in a safe manner.”

National Night Out started with neighbors turning on their porch lights and sitting outside their homes. This year, the 38th National Night Out will fall on Tuesday, August 3rd, and has been celebrated by more than 38,000,000 neighbors in over 16,000 communities across the United States.
