WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) released the below statement following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II:

“For almost one-third of America’s history, we have known Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as the monarch and leader of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. Her stature as a longstanding leader in the free world is tremendous and her legacy looms large. Queen Elizabeth II’s passing brings about a change in leadership not seen since 1952, a transition occurring for the first time in many peoples’ lives.

“Queen Elizabeth II’s time and commitment to her family, her country, and her people is unmatched. She has led the Commonwealth with 15 prime ministers, beginning with Winston Churchill in 1952 and concluding with her appointment of Prime Minister Liz Truss earlier this week. She reigned over the Commonwealth in times of prosperity and times of tragedy, standing before her people every day with courage and valor. She has endured throughout the vicissitudes of time and seasons of change.

“America’s relationship with the United Kingdom has only become stronger during her tenure over the past 70 years. Her reign coincided with 14 U.S. presidencies, and her rapport with American leaders has allowed for an active and steadfast connection between our two nations. Her exchanges with our nation’s leaders, particularly Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Reagan, have created a longstanding bond that will carry on for years to come.

“My prayers and thoughts are with the Royal Family and the new King Charles, as they navigate this transition. As the new King embarks on this delicate shift, I pray for his wellbeing and courage. I am thinking of all citizens in the United Kingdom and the fourteen other countries in the Commonwealth who mourn for the Queen and her family. The United States of America mourns with you.”
