WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) was appointed to serve on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), commonly known as the Intelligence Committee. HPSCI is charged with the oversight of the United States Intelligence Community, which includes the intelligence and intelligence-related activities of 17 agencies of the U.S. government and military intelligence programs. The committee handles a range of issues, including cybersecurity, election hacking, and growing threats from both state and non-state actors.

“Intelligence is the first line of defense in protecting our country against threats and foreign adversaries,” said Leader McCarthy. “Our civilian and military intelligence professionals do incredible work in gathering critical intelligence and deserve to have leaders on the Congressional intelligence committees who will match their level of dedication. I know that Brian will be up to that task. Under Ranking Member Devin Nunes’ leadership, House Intelligence Committee Republicans will continue to play a pivotal role in staying ahead of the Chinese Communist Party threat, and will help keep the American people safe against ongoing and emerging threats.”

“I welcome Rep. Fitzpatrick to the Intelligence Committee. With his deep experience serving as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney as well as fighting corruption and terrorism with the FBI, Rep. Fitzpatrick is an ideal pick to serve on this committee,” said Ranking Member Devin Nunes.

“It is an honor to have been appointed to this important committee. As a former FBI agent, I look forward to using that experience to work with my colleagues on the Committee in our joint mission to protect our nation’s security and oversee our intelligence agencies,” said Rep. Fitzpatrick. “Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we have reliable intelligence and accountable agencies that the American people can trust.”

Congressman Fitzpatrick is the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Energy, the Environment, and Cyber. He also serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, is the Vice-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, and Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus. Additionally, the Congressman serves on the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the U.S. Helsinki Commission.
