Washington, DC—Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on Syria:
“I’m greatly concerned by reports that the President will immediately withdraw troops from Syria. By eliminating our military presence in Syria, America is effectively ceding leverage to Iran. This decision further undermines our nation’s ability to apply maximum pressure against Iran and destabilizes our military partnership with Israel in the region. Our continued presence in Syria is critical to defeat ISIS, push back against Russian and Iranian influence, and put the Assad regime on notice. The previous administration demonstrated that allowing premature deadlines to dictate military posture are detrimental to our national security. I urge the President to reconsider withdrawing from Syria.”
