Langhorne, PA—Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08) announced plans Tuesday for federal safety grants aimed at assisting local fire departments to further strengthen their capabilities to respond to emergency situations. These grants focus on issues such as fire prevention, emergency vehicle procurement, staff training, and EMS operations.

“Our first responders are always there for us, willing to risk their lives to keep others safe,” said Fitzpatrick. “These grants are a tremendous opportunity for those dedicated public servants in Bucks and Montgomery County. It is vital we ensure local fire departments and emergency medical personnel have the necessary staffing and resources needed to protect lives and property.”

The application period for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security FY 2018 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) opened September 24, 2018.  The application period for the FY 2018 AFG Program closes on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 5:00 PM (Eastern).

The purpose of the AFG Program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. The program provides direct financial assistance to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated emergency medical service (EMS) organizations, and State Fire Training Academies (SFTA). The funds provide critically needed resources that equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience.
