Washington, D.C.—Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) and Josh Harder (CA-10) issued the following statement following their visit to the Southern border:

“The seriousness of the humanitarian crisis on the Southern border of the United States is recognized by Americans of all political persuasions. Our broken immigration system, violence and political instability in the Northern Triangle, and a lack of readily available resources have only exacerbated the challenges faced.

“As members of the Problem Solvers Caucus, we believe in results-oriented, effective policy measures that unite separate entities behind a common goal. Our trip to the border was rooted in that belief.

“As Americans, we prioritize our national security, as do we upholding the humanitarian standards aligned with our democratic values.

“The stories of child separation are heartbreaking and unacceptable.

“Ending the humanitarian crisis on the Southern border will require members of both parties to discuss solutions that protect children and the rule of law. We urge our colleagues to avoid partisanship and come together to enact immigration policies all Americans can be proud of.”
