WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) and Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) introduced the bipartisan Stop Foreign Funds in Elections Act to prohibit contributions and donations by foreign nationals in American elections, including local ballot initiatives.

“Foreign adversaries have no business influencing American elections on the local, state, or federal level,” said Congressman Fitzpatrick. “I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan legislation to ensure that American voices are not drowned out by foreign entities at the ballot box and that our democratic process is further protected.”

“Local ballot initiatives are intended to offer Mainers the chance to decide the direction of their communities, not to give foreign entities an opportunity to shape Maine how they see fit,” said Congressman Golden. “This bipartisan bill will go a long way towards keeping foreign contributions out of our democracy and preventing foreign money from interfering with ballot questions.”
