Washington, DC- U.S. House Leadership has tapped Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1) to serve as Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence’s (HPSCI) Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Subcommittee, an elite and highly sought-after leadership post charged with overseeing all operations of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), including all international covert operations. 

A former FBI Special Agent, Federal Prosecutor, and Chairman of the National Intelligence Subcommittee, Fitzpatrick brings extensive national security and intelligence experience to this leadership role. He also continues to serve as an active member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, reinforcing America’s strategic partnerships and global security efforts.

The CIA Subcommittee is responsible for the oversight of the CIA’s programs, policies, budget, and operations, as well as all covert actions conducted by the Intelligence Community. The subcommittee also plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effectiveness and accountability of human intelligence (HUMINT) collection and dissemination—an indispensable tool in protecting America’s interests worldwide.

Background:

Fitzpatrick has served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) since 2021, playing a key role in overseeing the 18-agency U.S. Intelligence Community and its mission to counter cybersecurity threats, election interference, terrorism, and foreign intelligence operations that impact U.S. national security.

This summer, in his role as Chairman of the National Intelligence Subcommittee, he led a high-level overseas intelligence mission that successfully secured the release of two American detainees, including U.S. citizen Tigran Gambaryan on humanitarian grounds, who had been imprisoned by the Nigerian government for eight months.

Prior to his service in Congress, Fitzpatrick spent 14 years as an FBI Special Agent and Federal Prosecutor, where he worked to combat domestic and international corruption, counterterrorism, and counterintelligence. He was embedded with U.S. Special Forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom, providing intelligence support for critical missions. Additionally, he served as National Director for the FBI’s Campaign Finance and Election Crimes Enforcement Program and as National Supervisor for the FBI’s Public Corruption Unit, earning national recognition for his work in strengthening the integrity of governmental institutions.
