Washington DC- Today, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1) issued the following statement regarding the procedural Budget Resolution vote:

Yesterday’s vote on the budget resolution was, once again, a procedural measure to advance the ongoing House-Senate negotiations surrounding the extension of the current federal tax code, which is set to expire. As anticipated, this latest version provides maximum flexibility for those discussions, as the Byrd Rule—which restricts non-budgetary provisions—applies only to the Senate, not to the House. Therefore, the budgetary numbers in the House budget are discretionary, they are not mandatory.  As with previous versions, the word Medicaid is not mentioned or addressed anywhere in the text.

As deliberations move forward, I remain firmly committed to protecting the benefits that our seniors, individuals with disabilities, and most vulnerable neighbors rely on through Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. We can—and must—achieve meaningful positive reform to ensure the long-term sustainability of these essential programs, without compromising the integrity of these essential programs.

I will continue to closely monitor these negotiations to ensure that any final agreement reflects genuine cooperation, fiscal responsibility, protection of our essential social safety net programs, and, above all, the best interests of our PA-1 community.
