WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1), a lifelong federal law enforcement agent, and Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (D-CA-35), a former 9-1-1 dispatcher, today introduced a bipartisan resolution designating August 5, 2025, as National Night Out—a nationwide observance honoring the vital partnership between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
At a time when division too often drowns out dialogue, National Night Out stands as a powerful reminder of what brings communities together: respect, connection, trust, and the simple act of showing up. Each year, more than 38 million Americans across 17,000 communities take part in events on the first Tuesday of August—gathering with local law enforcement to promote public safety, strengthen neighborhood bonds, and renew the relationships that make our communities resilient.
For Congressman Fitzpatrick, this resolution reflects a mission that has defined both his career in federal law enforcement and his service in Congress: building lasting bridges between citizens and the brave men and women sworn to protect them.
“A strong relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve is the cornerstone of public safety and the foundation of a healthy democracy,” said Fitzpatrick. “I’m proud to represent some of the finest officers in the nation here in PA-1, and deeply grateful for the way they serve—not only with courage and professionalism, but with compassion and connection. National Night Out celebrates that spirit. It strengthens the bonds between neighbors and those sworn to protect them, and reminds us unity and trust are essential to keeping our communities safe. I’m honored to join Congresswoman Torres in recognizing this meaningful and enduring tradition.”
“As a former 9-1-1 dispatcher for over 17 years and the mother of a police officer, I know firsthand how crucial it is to build partnership between law enforcement and the communities they serve,” said Torres. “This is more than an evening of celebration—it is an opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen community relationships, and honor the sacrifices our first responders make every day.”
The resolution introduced today calls on Congress to formally recognize National Night Out as a cornerstone of civic partnership and encourages Americans to recommit themselves to the shared work of building safer, stronger, and more unified communities—starting with the neighborhoods they call home.
