Through the Community Project Funding Request process for the 118th Congress, which was included in the Fiscal Year 2024 budget, Fitzpatrick successfully secured more than $27.5 million in funding for 14 transformative community projects that will directly benefit First District constituents. Additionally, Fitzpatrick secured over $19 million in CPF Funding for 13 projects in FY23 and over $6.6 million in CPF funding for 10 projects in FY22.

Key Highlights of the Transformative Initiatives Made Possible Through The $3,029,000 Secured Through Fitzpatrick’s Leadership:

Upper Bucks Rail Trail Improvement Project - $1.77 Million:

  • This funding will transform the Upper Bucks Rail Trail network into a continuous regional draw for hikers, cyclists, runners, and nature enthusiasts. Beyond enhancing community access to Bucks County’s scenic beauty, the project promotes environmental sustainability and outdoor recreation, which in turn bolsters the local economy. By linking and expanding these beloved trails, this project attracts visitors to experience Bucks County’s charm, driving tourism and supporting local businesses.

Newtown Rail Trail Extension Project - $1 Million:

  • With this investment, the Newtown Rail Trail will extend the popular Pennypack Creek Trail, transforming it into a continuous 25-mile off-road path from Newtown to the Delaware River. Utilizing the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s former Newtown Line right-of-way, the extended trail will link communities, expand recreational access, and spur tourism-driven economic growth for businesses along the route.

Bucks County Board of Commissioners Chair Diane Ellis-Marseglia remarked on the significance of both the Upper Bucks and Newtown Rail Trail Projects: “These trails have become such an important part of Bucks County as they offer a safe and beautiful way for citizens to stay healthy and enjoy our beautiful county. We appreciate this funding; it literally makes it possible to expand and connect our trails.”

Congressman Fitzpatrick emphasized the importance of these initiatives: “These rail trails are not just pathways; they are essential assets that bring our community together and showcase the natural beauty of PA-1. I am proud to champion this funding, which elevates the quality of life for our residents, fosters environmental sustainability, and propels economic growth. This investment reflects the spirit and resilience of our district, creating lasting opportunities for outdoor recreation, protecting our local environment, and generating economic benefits that will resonate throughout our community.”

September 11th National Memorial Trail - $259,000:

  • The September 11th National Memorial Trail stands as a profound tribute to the heroes and victims of 9/11, connecting key memorial sites across the country. Fitzpatrick, who spearheaded the legislative effort to establish this trail in 2021, secured additional funding to support signage installations along the trail’s Pennsylvania segment from the Flight 93 Memorial to Portland and from Washington Crossing to the Delaware border. The signage will enhance navigation across the trail’s 1,500-mile route, ensuring accessibility for all visitors and encouraging community engagement.

Sept 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance President Jeff McCauley explained the importance of this project: “The September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance extends its deep gratitude to Congressman Fitzpatrick for his invaluable support in securing this grant. This grant will fund critical road signage throughout Pennsylvania, ensuring that trail users are clearly guided along the current on-road sections of the 9/11 Trail. As the Alliance continues its collaborative efforts with partners and stakeholders to expand and develop off-road trail segments, this signage project represents a significant step forward in enhancing safety and accessibility for all trail visitors.”

Fitzpatrick added: “More than just a path, the September 11th National Memorial Trail is a journey of remembrance and resilience that honors the lives lost and the heroes who emerged in the wake of tragedy. This funding will enhance the trail’s visibility and accessibility, ensuring that every visitor can navigate this vital tribute with ease. As we connect memorial sites across the nation, we not only preserve the memory of that fateful day but also strengthen the bonds of community and patriotism that unite us all.”

These projects exemplify Fitzpatrick’s dedication to enhancing residents’ quality of life, promoting environmental stewardship, and driving economic vitality. Through these investments, PA-1 stands as a national model, honoring the past while paving the way for a thriving future.
